Presbyopia

Presbyopia is the normal loss of near focusing ability that happens with age. Most people begin to notice the presence of presbyopia sometime around or after the age of 40 when they start having difficulties seeing small print clearly such as text messages on their phone.


Symptoms of Presbyopia

You may first notice these signs and symptoms after age 40:

Holding reading material or phone farther away to make the letters clearer Vision is blurred at the normal reading distance Eyestrain/fatigue or headaches after reading or doing close-up work These symptoms are worse if you are tired or are in an area with dim lighting.

Presbyopia is a normal condition that comes with age. A basic eye exam by the Optometrist or Optician can confirm presbyopia. Presbyopia can be corrected using glasses or contact lenses.
