Myopia Management Centre
Singapore has the highest prevalence of myopia, with many children developing myopia at a very young age. According to the Straits Time report (May 27, 2019), base on a study by SNEC, this number is expected to spike in the next two decades.
As myopia progress, it is not just a matter of the number of the “degree” going up or the glasses getting thicker and heavier. When myopia progress, it means that the eyeball is getting longer (elongated). With elongation, it stretched the retina as well.
Multiple studies have shown that many eye diseases/conditions can be related due to the presence of myopia and the higher myopia, the greater the risk of developing these irreversible ocular conditions.
